The Usual Intro [27 Sep 2007|02:06pm]

[ mood | happy ]

I'm Laura; I just recently turned 38 years old, and in the last year and and eight months, I've lost 73 pounds.

Here are the stats:

Height: 5'7"
Current Weight: 144 lb
Highest Weight: 217 lb
Lowest Weight: I have no idea really.  I was always big, until now.
Goal Weight: 140 lbs

I started this journey at 217 pounds and wearing a size 20.  I'm now 144 pounds and wearing a size 8.

Here's a post from my personal LJ about How I Did It.  I wrote this in January of this year--after I'd been at it for one year, so I've lost a bit more since then, but not a whole lot.  The really funny (ironic?) thing is that I didn't start out doing it on purpose.  My intent was never to lose weight, just to be more healthy.  The weight thing came along with it, and when I realized how good I felt and how much better I was starting to look, I jumped right on the bandwagon and never went back.

I underwent a lifestyle change.  I still eat in this "new" way, and I always will, and I'm still with the three times a week gym visits for cardio and weight training.

I've got "issues", but mostly they are psychological.  In my mind I still see the 200+ pound, size 20 person, and that leads to some pitfalls here and there.  Luckily I have an amazing fiancé to help me remember that I'm not that person anymore, and I usually get over whatever it is and move on.

Anyway, that's it for my introduction.

Hi guys!  :D

New member Intro & 2 Questions [17 Sep 2007|12:59pm]

Hi! I'm Katie, I'm 21 yrs. old (will be 22 in October) and I'm from SC. My LJ is slave_to_music (feel free to add me).

I've been on a diet for the past five and a half months (watching fat mostly because that's my weakness). So far, I've lost 55 lbs. and I'm only 30 lbs away from my goal.

Here are the stats:
Height: 5'7"
Current Weight: 165 lb
Highest Weight: 220 lb
Lowest Weight: 170 lbs (before starting this diet)
Goal Weight: 135 lbs

I exercise 7 days a week for 30 to 60 minutes and I do weights/yoga/pilates once every 2 or 3 days.

Ok...here are my questions...

Has anyone else noticed that after being on a diet for a certain period of time, you start to have negative reactions to certain foods? I'm not a vegetarian; I eat red meat; just not as much. However the last two nights I've had it, I've gotten sick. I know the meat wasn't contaminated, cause the rest of my family felt fine. Has anyone else has this issue with red meat or any other food?

The second question is what do you guys use/take for muscle strains. I do vigorously walking as cardio and I recently tried doing walk/jog (walk a block, jog a block). I think it was too much cause my legs have been sore for days. I went walking yesterday and I think it just made it worse. So I'll skip it today (and tomorrow...only if I have to...I hate missing a workout). Its not bad to the point where its bruising or swelling; it just hurts. I just want some relief from the pain. I use to take Alieve, but someone told me that pill can discourage muscle growth (dunno if that's true) What do you guys use?

Thanks for reading! Good luck on your weight-loss goals!

Hi Everyone. I really really really need your help... [14 Sep 2007|04:32am]

Hi Everyone. I'm Lauren. I've lost weight once before, but now I'm about to embark on the ridiculous journey once more of losing over 50 lbs.

I'm begging and pleading with you - I need YOUR help. I need all of the support and encouragement as possible. I've been trying to do this on my own and I just realized that I need to suck up my pride and rely on the kindness of strangers to help push me. I honestly have the motivation but sometimes I lose sight and fall down. Does that make sense?

So, I've got a really in depth, personal, and funny blog that I JUST started and I want as many people as possible to join me on this journey. We'll make friends and inspire one another. If I feel responsible for this blog, I will work hard. I want to make all of you proud of me. You know? The blog will be fun and not boring. It won't just say "Hey, I exercised like X times today and ate this today, here are the stats ..." It'll be much, much more than that. I'll have lots of pictures and video blogs and just a bunch of great advice I've learned and learned from others, all while documenting and narrating my own struggles.

So, if anyone wants to join me and a lot of other people in this journey, please come on over to my blog. I would LOVE to see you there and hope to become your friend soon!

Thank you so much!

Good luck to EVERYONE on their weight loss journeys. WE CAN DO IT!!

Lots of Love,

I am a 20 y/o female. My stats follow.

Height: 5'6"
Weight: 145 lb
BMI: normal range, between 18.5 - 24.9 (will edit to exact when I find my BMI calculator)

Highest Weight: 165 lb
Lowest Weight: 134 lb

Goal Weight: around 125 lb
Goal Body Fat: 12%

I do cardio 7x a week, and weight train 2x a week. I use a Polar HRM to track my progress.
My weaknesses are eating because of stress and lack of portion control. My goal for this week is to make sure I split my B, L, & D into halves and eat 6 small meals to prevent the overeating. : )

I hope to reach my goals before 2008, maybe not BF goal but hopefully weight goal.

Looking for a new fitness program? How about trying the Presidential Fitness Challenge. This challenge comes in three varieties:

1. The Active Lifestyle Program - For those of you who aren't active on a daily basis yet, this is a great way to begin. The rules are basically to get a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise at least 5 days a week, for a total of 6 weeks.

2. The Presidential Champions Program - If you're already active and want a new challenge, this program is for you. Your goal is to see how many points you can earn by staying active. Points are based on the amount of energy each activity burns. So the more active you are, the more points you'll get. When you reach 20,000 points, you'll earn a Bronze award. Then you can continue on in the Presidential Champions program for a Silver or Gold award.

3. The Advanced Performance Presidential Champions Program - This is basically the same system as the Presidential Champions Program, except that the award goals are higher. For instance, you need to get 40,000 points to earn a Bronze award.

The Presidential Champions Fitness Program Website (where you can log your progress and also order your awards when you've reached your goal)

Also, if you want, come join the LJ pres_challenge community to chat with others who are challenging themselves with this program.

I am not sure if this is allowed, if it isn't let me know and I'll delete the post.

I've read that quite a few people are trying the SELF challenge. Unfortunatly there was no active LJ community for the people doing it. So I created one. If anyone is doing the challenge, or is interested in it, come join the community,

sigh [25 Jan 2006|11:44pm]

So the start of the new year was actually a sobering experiance for me. I found that all of my assumptions were based on being just under 200 lbs, and my plans and routines were geared towards losing a total of 80 lbs in a years. I found out over break that I was in fact 238 lbs. I had actually regained everything I lost. It was strange because I didn't feel that different. I can walk up a flight of stair and not be out of breath but it totally shook my confidence. I had to buy a new pair of jeans 2 sizes bigger, I am now offically a size 18 (not a great size for person that is 5'3). Now that I am back at school and I have rejoined a gym, and in three weeks I have missed two days. I have even lost 4 lbs. I guess I am just disapointed in myself.

I have however joined another site. Its called coolrunning.com and it has a plan called couch to 5K a plans for sedentary people that want to train for a 5K run. So I start that tomorrow. I hope that as I get healthier and as I reformat my life it will be less about my body weight and pant size and more about being happy and healthy. I still want to try and reach 160 by july especially since my sister is getting married but I just have doubts that I will be able to do it.
Here is the site for the running plan.

Hello I am a twenty one year old college senior, so I don't really have much time to do anything other than school.
I've been fat all my life, from the age of seven on I was the fat girl. Now that I am approaching the adult world I'm not the fat girl anymore. But in my eyes, in my head and in my heart I am obese and that isn't how I want to life my life. The taunts from highschool might not hurt me, but I wouldn't want my future (far future children) to be as ashamed of their mother as I am of my self.

but now I want that to change.

GOAL: 120 lbs
Highest: 230 lbs
Current: 195
Mini-goal: 190 by new years

I hope that here I can get the support I need to make my goals and not just "you look fine" that I get from my friends and family.

Here comes winter [30 Nov 2005|11:50am]

Hope everyone is staying and getting healthy and getting closer to her/his goals. Thanksgiving took it's toll on me, hopefully you all made it through.

I am looking to add some variation to my workouts and also some upperbody strength training. If you have any suggestions, please comment; here is my usual routine:
I walk about a mile or two back and forth to class each day.
make it to the gym for about 35 mins of eliptical machine about 3 times a week.
i dance around my dorm room like a freak when my roommate is gone.
i do the 2 yoga-ish poses I know about 5 times a week.

I enjoy the dancing and yoga, eliptical gets boring, running has never been my thing. I have 10lb free-weights in my dorm.
Make a recommendation please.

Also, do you think is it realistic to try to lose 13 lbs in 21-28 days? What are some of the best ways to make this happen? thanks in advance.

intro and question [28 Nov 2005|02:11pm]

Age: 20
Height: 5'9"
Current Weight: 186 lbs
Starting Weight: 202 lbs
Total Loss: 16 lbs
Goal Weight 1: 170 lbs
Goal Weight 2: 150 lbs

Now I guess a lil back ground info:
I used to be very fit and very active. I used to be a dancer and a wrestler. But injuries struck when i was 16 and am now left with a very weak right knee that I doubt would be able to go through the vigourous training that I once did, due to the fact it likes to lock up now and then.

I used to weigh roughly 150lbs about 3yrs back. A mixture of a couple of things have made me gain this weight.

-Going off of my anti depressants

-A tailbone surgery wich took me bout 3 months to recover from (wich acted up again earlier this year wich left me in pain for a month, luckily no surgery was needed)

-Massive headaches for 5 months wich were treated with different kinds of medication that made me gain 30lbs.

All of that added in with no motivation and the love of junk food made me hit the weight of 202lbs.

But I have a lovely support group.
My mother, who has helped me keep on track and also helped me to stick to eating foods that are healthy.
My fianace, who has helped me keep focused and not get discouraged and reminding me that he loves me no matter what.

Now my question:

I was wondering if anyone can tell me about some good cleanses/detox's
Perferably one that is only a couple of days long.

WTF? [22 Nov 2005|01:15pm]

Recap: Katie Michelle, 19, ED-NOS
hw: 211
cw: WTF I dunno. See below. Somewhere around 200-210.
lw: 135
ltg: 125
stg: 175

I have some serious issues with my scale. I normally weigh myself in the morning, right after my shower, naked. I've tried weighing before my shower, but it's always lower after. So anyway, for the past two weeks it's been:
211 ... 210.8 ... 209.8 ... 208.6 ... 210 ... 209.4 ... 208.2. (I don't have all the days, consider it an every other day record)

cue the wtf...Collapse )

Thanks to anyone who can help *hugs*

Age: 19 yrs
Height: 5 feet 10 inches
Past highest weight at current height: 220 lbs
Past lowest at current weight 160
Starting weight: 180 lbs
Current weight: ~ 173 lbs (not very accurate as I am at the end of a fast)
Goals: ~160 lbs or lower, increases upper body strength, control, higher energy, focused spirituality that can coincide with body.
interests: fasting (liquid)
activities: walking, eliptical machines, free weights, yoga, stretching, cooking, teas,

I've been livejournaling (health focused) for about 18 days now. In that time I have been become increasingly aware of how I am eating, exercising and how I plan to reach my goals. I have been keeping track of what I feel is most important and helpful.

I am currently a student at a state University, living on campus. It is my second year and I am still learning about how I need to take care of myself. I am starting nearly from scratch as my entire family is overweight and are not very conscious of how to get or maintain a health body.

Looking for friends and support. Thanks in advance.

Introduction - Furious Jayne [11 Nov 2005|09:04pm]

As per the moderator:

I'm a 43 year old female looking to lose the thirty odd pounds that have been added to my body in the past two years of menopause and sedentary lifestyle. I am currently weighing in at 156 pounds on a five foot frame. This has been two years of divorce while quitting smoking; it's been two years of not eating less while not going to the gym. Two years ago I was 125 pounds, I had 32% body fat and was working out four to six times a week either by myself or with a personal trainer. I am highly motivated to work through to total fitness once again.

US Dress Size 8
25% Body Fat
Get men to walk into telephone poles again.

Current regime:

Cardio & Fatburning - Elliptical
Weight Machine
Personal Trainer 1xweek.

Looking to Add in coming month:

Pilates Class 1 - 2 X's a week

I've been back at the gym since the beginning of November however, the first week I was putzing around on the elliptical aand nothing more. This week has been 3 x's including the personal trainer.

I realize that PT's don't solve all my problems. Food is next on the hit parade. This week was the last hurrah. Next week it's less and less fat with more zesty salads. Smaller portion sizes, more action, and some fat burning lipotronics will hopefully get me through the holidays in better shape than I started.

I have a closetful of clothes that I can no longer fit into. It's definately a motivating factor!

First Post [19 Oct 2005|03:48pm]

Well this is my first post. I've been on live journal a while but never joined any communities until now. I'm 20 a college Junior, majoring in Biochemistry with a minor in Biology. Needless to say school keeps me pretty busy. When I am not at school or studying I am working out, specifically running. I love running. I've been doing it for about 8 years. In the last two years I've ran two half marathons and am looking forward to this year. My main goal right now is to lose 10lbs. I'm not going to do it by not eating anything because I physically have to eat to be able to do everything that I do. Mostly I am just increasing my mileage and trying to do a couple of two-a-days. I currently run about 40-55 miles a week, which is up from the 20-30 I was running this summer. I have currently lost 4 lbs so about 6 more to go. I'm not getting much support from my friends because they all think I am crazy to be running in the first place so I could really use some support. Thanks and good luck with everyone's goals!

Success won't just come to you - it has to be met at least half way

[ mood | frustrated ]

Well. I am really at a standstill. I decided about three weeks ago to start to get really serious about loosing weight. I am 29 and I am not able to stay thin like I was able to do when I was younger and I am not liking getting fat so I figured I better nip it right now before it becomes a huge undertaking. Last summer I lost about 15 pounds on atkins but I really feel like atkins isn’t something I can maintain. I want to simply have a healthier lifestyle. The problem is I don’t know how. I don’t know how to count calories (how many a day is healthy?) I don’t know if I should be watching my fat intake and I have been trying to job but after three weeks I can’t run any further than I could day one. I tried just eating what I thought was healthy and minimizing my portion size but that just isn’t working. It’s time to try something different but I have no idea how to go about this.

I am currently 166 pounds and I want to be 145. I wouldn’t think 20 pounds would be so tough but so far it’s been impossible.
